Tcheu Siong is a self-taught Hmong artist whose textile practice transforms embroidery and reverse appliqué into bold figurative forms. Rooted in Hmong traditions yet departing from geometric abstraction, her works translate dreams and visions into spirits, gods, and ghosts that reflect imagination, memory, and cultural identity. Her art affirms the unseen’s role in daily life, from fertility and health to ancestral guidance. Internationally recognized, Siong has exhibited at the Thailand Biennial (2023-24, Chiang Rai, Thailand); Whetūrangitia / Made As Stars (The Dowse Art Museum, New Zealand, 2022-23); the 13th Gwangju Biennale (Gwangju, South Korea, 2021), APT9 (Queensland Art Gallery, Australia, 2018-19), and the Singapore Biennale (2016-17). Solo exhibitions include The Spirits Guide the Scissors (Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, 2020) and The Genie Behind the Scissors (Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, 2010-11).
