Swannie

Myanmar
1993

Swannie is a queer Burmese artist born in Mandalay and based in Bangkok. With a background in fashion styling and art direction across Myanmar and Thailand, she brings a cinematic and choreographic sensibility to her work, using movement, image, and emotional memory to explore identity. Her practice interrogates the pressures of binary gender systems and the societal expectations placed on trans bodies. She works through themes of shame, resilience, self-sabotage, and the ongoing labor of becoming. Her work carries a raw, untamed desire to break the mold, rejecting conformity while reclaiming authorship over her own body and narrative. Transformation, for her, is not a destination but a relentless cycle of rupture and return, healing and unmaking. Through visceral performance and visual storytelling, Swannie confronts patriarchy as both a structural force and an internalized inheritance to be dismantled through the body. Her work has been presented on international platforms including NOWNESS Asia (Where the River Ends, 2023), VICE Asia (Lest We Die, Unbloomed, 2023), and SAC Gallery Bangkok (A Body on Repeat).
