1995

Parada Wiratsawee grew up in a family of market traders in Chonburi, Thailand. Wiratsawee studied Sculpture for his bachelor’s degree at the School of Architecture, Art and Design at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand and a master’s degree from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University in Thailand. During his studies, he examined his childhood experiences, particularly his fascination with the fresh fish stalls. By combining the figures of human and fish, the human-like fish sculptures pose questions to the audience: what if animals resembled humans, would we still have the same courage to kill or eat them? Since people generally view harming animals as less abominable than harming fellow humans, Wiratsawee’s portrayal of animals with human attributes serves to urge the audience to recognize the value of animal life. Wiratsawee’s artworks often explore the relationship between humans and animals, with notable exhibitions include Imagination of the Merchant’s Child (People’s Gallery BACC, Bangkok, 2024); Mango Art Festival (River City Bangkok, 2023); 21st CENTURY OF US (ICONSIAM, Bangkok, 2022); Beauty Now or Later (ART Space at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, 2021); and Art for Refugees “Nobody Left Outside” by UNHCR (MOCA Bangkok, 2019). Wiratsawee currently resides and works in Chonburi, Thailand.
